Prof. Dr. Azirah Hashim

President

International Association of Applied Linguistics (AILA)

Professor at the Faculty of Languages and Linguistics, Universiti Malaya.Her recent publications include English in Southeast Asia and ASEAN: Transformation of Language Habitats, Routledge co-authored with Gerhard Leitner (2020), Malaysian Perspectives on ASEAN Regionalism, University of Malaya  edited with Anthony Milner (2019) and articles in English Today, Discourse Studies and Higher Education Quarterly.

Prof. Dr. Hayo Reinders

Professor: TESOL 

Dr. Hayo Reinders is Chair of Research for the Anaheim University Graduate School of Education. Holding a Ph.D. in Language Teaching and Learning from the University of Auckland, Dr. Reinders is also Professor of Education and Head of Department at Unitec in Auckland, New Zealand.Dr. Reinders edits the journal 'Innovation in Language Learning and Teaching' as well as a book series on ‘New Language Learning and Teaching Environments’ for Palgrave Macmillan. He is Editor of Innovation in Language Learning and Teaching, and Convenor of the AILA Research Network for CALL and the Learner. Dr. Reinders' interests are in technology in education, learner autonomy, and out-of-class learning, and he is a speaker on these subjects for the Royal Society of New Zealand. His most recent books are on teacher autonomy, teaching methodologies, and second language acquisition

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Siti Jamilah Bidin

Former Deputy Dean

School of Languages, Civilisation and Philosophy, Univeristi Utara Malaysia

Dr. Siti Jamilah is Associate Professor of Applied Linguistics at the School of Languages, Civilisation and Philosophy (SLCP), Universiti Utara Malaysia and Editor-in-Chief of Malaysian Journal of Applied Linguistics (MJOAL).  She obtained her PhD in English Studies from the University of Nottingham, UK. Her recent work includes ‘A Correlational Study between MUET and IELTS’, and ‘Developing a Framework for Malaysian Traditional Children's Games in Sustaining National Heritage’. Her research interests are classroom second language acquisition, academic writing, language and culture, pragmatics and language assessment.

Professor Dr. Zuraidah Mohd Don

Univeristi Teknologi Malaysia

She publishes in ISI/Scopus-indexed journals in  Discourse Analysis and English Language. Her most recent authored book was published in 2019 and an edited book on policy implementation was published in 2021. In view of her work, she has been invited as keynote or plenary speaker at international conferences in Malaysia and abroad. 

Professor Dr. Hazita Azman

Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia

She has researched extensively and has widely published in the areas of language policy, ESL literacy practices, multimodal literacies, literacy assessment, and Environmental Education for Sustainable Development (EESD). She has held administrative posts as Dean of the faculty for five years between 2011-2016, Deputy Dean from 2004-2009 and earlier as Chair of the School from 2000-2003. She serves as a panel member of the English Language Standards and Quality Council (ELSQC) for the Ministry of Education Malaysia since 2016 and now acts as Chair of the English Language Standards and Quality Council (ELSQC) for the English Language Standards and Quality Council (ELSQC) for the Ministry of Education Malaysia.

Welcome to the 1st Applied Linguistics and Language Studies International Conference (ApLIC 2021). This international conference is organised by the Applied Linguistics Unit, School of Languages, Civilisation and Philosophy, Universiti Utara Malaysia. ApLIC 2021 is a platform where researchers, practitioners and educators can exchange ideas, experiences and recent innovations and trends on linguistics and languages with potential applications in broad areas such as education, communication, speech science and technology, and business.

  1. Early bird registration is from now till 30 June 2021 ONLY.

  2. Authors need to pay the fees BEFORE 15 October 2021 in order for their papers to be included in the e-proceeding.

  3. A special rate will be given to UUM Staff.

Cancellation Policy

Conference registrants cancelling their registration on or before 15 October 2021 will receive a refund of the conference registration fee, less a USD30 administrative fee.
